This is a small mood board of one of the art directions I could go with the game. It would be a sort of B-movie or retro 50's futurism graphics and motif.

Board Game Concept
My more detailed concept for my board game, (and by extension, my Senior Thesis,) is a four player race-like game. It will have a space travel theme. The premise is that there is a huge asteroid on a collision course with earth. The planet is doomed but there is hope... for a few. There is a self-sustaining Martian colony but it's only big enough to hold approximately two-hundred people at the moment. Two to four players will represent different space exploration companies vying to reach and gain control of the colony first.
Each player will likely roll dice to move around spaces on a board. They ultimately want to collect all of the necessary supplies such as rocket fuel, food, hydroponics equipment, tools and the like and then get on their ship and leave before the asteroid hits the planet.
On the board there are specific locations that you have to travel to to acquire supplies. Spaces you land on along the way may have you draw cards from a deck or something. These cards might give you the ability to steal from and sabotage the other players or destroy resources they need.
There could be an overall asteroid tracker that moves a little closer to earth after every round of turns. It might be possible that the constant fighting of the players could cause a no-win game in that no one is able to get their things together before the big rock hits. This could be an optional component for more challenge.
The point is not to create an orderly and benevolent environment of people coming together to help one another in a time of need but more of a mean spirited crisis of panic, selfishness and the worst qualities in the human race.

Senior Thesis Concept
My Senior Thesis Project will detail designing and constructing a functioning board game. This may include anything applicable such as game board, cards, box, instructions, etc.
I hope to have my game take inspiration and elements from some of the following existing board games.
